PTC recognises tobacco farmers
Islamabad :Pakistan Tobacco Company Limited (PTC) organised an event dedicated to appreciate tobacco growers. Star Farmer Programme was organised to appreciate the top farmers who have contributed significantly for the best quality crop and yields while following the recommended best practices.
Officials from Pakistan Tobacco Board, Agriculture department and Water Management along with others attended the event.
Company officials while addressing the farmers stated that, "PTC strongly believes that agriculture is the key driver of economic development in the country and is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy. The officials in the address stated that in line with its global guiding principles, Pakistan Tobacco Company Limited continues to engage with and assist farmers, both in improving their farm performance and their sustainability.
Sustainable business practices are at the heart of the company’s strategy and a prosperous farmer is the key to a sustainable agriculture. "For the last 72 years, PTC has successfully transferred skills, new technologies, and best agricultural practices, to the farmers", they added.
Talking about the programme, PTC’s Head of Leaf, Khurram Shahzad stated that Star Farmer Programme is one of the stalwart initiatives of PTC that promotes a competitive environment amongst farmers aimed at efficient utilization of resources, better productivity and quality improvement through adoption of new technologies and best practices.
As part of the programme the top performing farmers are rewarded and their performance is acknowledged amongst the farming and the local community, he added.
